Friday, July 31. Mid-50s and sunny going up to low-90s.
Up at 7:30. Post office opens at 11:00 and I have a 6-10 mile hike to get there. Perfect timing. On trail at 8:20.
Nice to not be in the burn zone and in some shade from live trees.

Arrived at Old Station and Hat Creek Resort at 10:35. About 6 other hikers here. The camp store doesn’t have much other than expensive snacks and soda. I got an ice cream and moved up the road to Rim Rock Ranch which appears to have a much better store including beer.
My package was not at the post office. It was only some extra food I bounced from Quincy. I think it got lost in the Quincy Post Office. No big deal.
Road walked to Rim Rock Ranch campground and arrived at 12:30. Can’t check in until 3:00. It’s a bit hot out here on the road with no shade.

Rim Rock has a nice camp store. Decently stocked for hikers and campers. Much better than the Hat Creek Resort store. And they have beer and a nice food truck. Open until 8:00 on weekends. Friendly staff and there is a small general store 1/2 a mile up the road.

Walked to the Old Station Fillup. Gas station and store with emphasis on RV camping. Nice place with good selection. And they have a Verizon signal booster. Decent internet service using my Verizon hotspot. Got some snacks, a cold sandwich, and a big fountain drink.

They also have a small laundromat and coin-op showers next door. I paid $5 for a 7-minute shower. Fortunately, I have that lightweight pack towel! The shower was very nice given all that burn area I’ve been hiking in.

Hung out at the gas station for a couple of hours to use their fast Verizon. Talked to Pitcrew and joined Jon’s Friday Zoom Happy Hour.
Checked in at the campground and got access to their WiFi. I’m staying in the sleeper compartment of an 18 wheeler. They have 3 of them sitting on the ground for $24 a night. No electricity, but nice coolness factor!

Hung out on the shade at the camp store all evening. Met Skittles, the only other PCT hiker here, and chatted for a few hours with her. She is headed to Burney Mountain Guest Ranch tomorrow also. Had a pair of yummy and expensive microwave burritos for dinner. Headed back to my truck sleeper at 8:30.
