“Let’s go crazy
Let’s get nuts
Let’s look for the purple banana
‘Til they put us in the truck, let’s go!
We’re all excited
But we don’t know why
Maybe it’s ’cause
We’re all gonna die” – Prince
Up at 6:30. On trail at 7:20.
Partly sunny, upper 70s.
Summited Fulling Mill Mountain at 7:40. Fun way to start the day. Foreshadowing.

Arrived at Mahoosuc Notch west at 8:30. Time for the hardest and funnest mile on the AT.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million.
YouTube video of Chuck doing the Mahoosuc Notch.
OMG 10:45 and I’m done! That was fun and hard all at the same time. Two hours and fifteen minutes to go one mile.
Now that I’m done with the easy part of the day, I need to ascend the Mahoosuc Arm. Started up about 11:30.

OMG…finished ascending Mahoosuc Arm at 12:50. That was insane. Hardest climb on trail! The pics below are taken at a massively steep angle and slabs of rock.

Now I need to climb over Mount Spec then down to the road. Still have 5.3 miles and 4-5 hours of hard climbing.

Stopped to fill up on water at an alpine pond between the Arm and Old Spec.

The climb up Old Spec is steep and rocky. This group left camp about 90 minutes ahead of me this morning. I passed them at the summit of Old Spec. The photo below shows how steep it is. They are on trail directly above me. This climb was HARD.

Summited Old Spec at 2:35. That was one hard, steep, rocky climb. My group and I from this morning agreed that today was the hardest day on the trail so far.

Once I finished ascending Old Spec, I had to rush right into the brutal descent to get to my shuttle on time. The long descent down Spec to Grafton Notch was a bitch. Very steep, with rock scrambles, slippery at times, and long. I hauled ass as I knew I was going to be late for my shuttle.
Made it to the parking lot on time. I hauled ass down, and I am wiped out. Rodney drove me to the Elizabeth Inn in Bethel, Maine. Very nice Inn, not a hostel,by a mile.

Showered, unpacked, did basic grocery shopping, and treated myself to a very nice dinner and drinks at the Inn. First bourbon in many hundred miles. I got pleasantly and intentionally drunk this evening since all I have to do is walk upstairs, and tomorrow is a zero. Plus, my body HURTS.

I am very excited and happy about finishing the last 2 days. Mahoosuc Notch is a HUGE milestone. Plus, the last 2 days were the hardest I will face until Katahdin. I really need this zero day tomorrow. More on my plans and mental state on the zero day post tomorrow.
