Day 107 – Wind Gap PA to Delaware Water Gap

Today’s Miles: 15.5

Trip Miles: 1305.5

“Now it all started two Thanksgivings ago. I was on – two years ago on

Thanksgiving, when my friend and I went up to visit Alice at the

restaurant, but Alice doesn’t live in the restaurant. She lives in the

church nearby the restaurant, in the bell tower, with her husband Ray and

Fasha the dog. And living in the bell tower like that, they got a lot of

room downstairs where the pews used to be in.” – Arlo Guthrie

Up at 6:50. Packed up, had leftover pizza for breakfast, and headed out at 8:15. Mosey used my bathroom at 7:00 before she got on the trail. We should catch her later today before she flips to Maine.

Overcast, breezy, low 80s, rain after 4:00.

We have 15.5 miles to Delaware Water Gap. Hope to get in by 5:00. There MIGHT be a hostel in town based on some chatter. Otherwise, the local church offers shelter in their basement. Hoping for a hostel.

Stopped at Wolf Rocks for lunch at 11:50. Just 8.7 more miles to go today. Back on the trail at 12:40.

Some kind soul left a water cache at PA 191. We both took about .7 liters.

Stopped at Kirkridge Shelter at 1:50 to use the privy. 6.4 more miles to go. Back on the trail at 2:15. Hope to be to the church by 6:00 at the latest.

View down to the Delaware River and a large power plant.

We got to Delaware Water Gap at 5:45. Cute little tourist town, but most things are closed today as it’s Monday.

Got to The Church of the Mountain Appalachian Trail Hikers Center at 5:45.  We are staying in the walkout basement of the church. Not bad for a donation-based hiker hostel. One shower, one bathroom, about 10 bunks. The extended family is here as well as Tortilla.

Got unpacked, showered, and went out for dinner about 6:45.

Dinner at the Sycamore Grille was nice. Love their sign.

Walked to the gas station for soda and snacks then back to the church. Chatted with the gang for a bit then in bed by 10:00.

We have realized that we have 900 miles left!
